If you’ve noticed something different about our project lately… you’re not imagining things. After a lot of thinking, tweaking, and birding in all sorts of places, the BirdUTM Project is now officially called PatchBird.
Why the change? Well, it’s simple: we wanted a name that felt more personal, more inviting, and easier to connect with – no matter where you’re from. "PatchBird" reflects what this project is really about: documenting birdlife in your local patch, one square at a time.

The Same Heart, With a Wider Reach
The core idea hasn’t changed. We are still all about encouraging birders to survey underbirded and overlooked areas using a simple, consistent method. But now, we are spreading our wings a little further – literally.
The PatchBird website is now available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese!
We’ve always believed that bird conservation should be as inclusive as possible. And with so many amazing birders across Latin America and Lusophone countries, it was time we made space for more voices, more data, and more meaningful collaboration.
To Everyone Who's Just Joining
If you're a birder in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Portugal, or any other Spanish- or Portuguese-speaking country, PatchBird is for you too. You don’t have to be a scientist. You don’t have to have expensive gear. If you can spare 15 minutes and submit a simple checklist, you’re already making a difference.
And now, you can do it all in your language.
We’re still improving a few things (translations take time), but the foundation is solid – and we’re beyond excited to welcome more birders into the PatchBird community.

It’s easy. Head to the homepage, sign up, and pick a square.Your patch matters. And your birds deserve to be counted.
